Tyres & Tubes

Tyres and tubes present additional challenges when creating products. Because of the various sizes and formats it is important that they are presented to the customer in a manner that enables them to quickly and easily find the item they want. The factors that enable this are:

  • a well defined hierarchical structure
  • a clear product title
  • standard size options
  • a well defined set of Features tags
  • standard Wheel Size tags

Following this guide will ensure that customers can easily filter and find the right products on the Fawkes website and third party sales channels, such as Amazon and Google.

Following the standard structure of product title will also help to ensure that products in the same parent group all have the same price. This rule is to ensure that products conform to Googles e-commerce rules.

Wheel Size tag – Tyres & Tubes

For all tyres and tubes you should use the Wheel Size tag to indicate the specific wheel size for the product. If you’ve correctly adhered to the defined hierarchy (see above) each product will have a wheel size from the table below:

Wheel Size
16 inch
18 inch
20 inch
24 inch
26 inch
27 inch
27.5 inch
28 inch
29 inch
650 A
650 B
650 C
700 C

Features tag – Tyres

Tyres should have their standard features defined, as a comma separated list, in the Features tag. The standard features for tyres are defined in the table below:

Features (Tyres)
Rigid
Foldable
Front
Rear
Tubeless
Tubular
Clincher
Spiked
Reflective

Features tag – Tubes

Inner tubes should have their standard features defined, as a comma separated list, in the Features tag. All inner tubes must include the valve type (Presta, Schrader or Dunlop Wood) in the features and in addition (where relevant), the valve length e.g. Presta 40 mm. It is common for a product to have a multiple valve lengths included in the features as the features are defined for the parent product.

The standard features for inner tubes are defined in the table below:

Features (Tubes)
Presta
Presta 40 mm
Presta 48 mm
Presta 60 mm
Schrader
Schrader 40 mm
Schrader 48 mm
Dunlop Woods
RVC

Tyre Specification

There is a Specification definition for tyres which means that the product page will have an additional tab, titled Specification and this will contain a table showing the standard specification for the tyre (if it has been populated).

The standard specification includes:

  • Wheel Size
  • ETRTO
  • Size
  • Category
  • Type
  • Colour
  • Bead
  • Carcus
  • Protection
  • Tyre Compound
  • Weight

The options for these elements are defined in the tables below:

Tyre Specification: Wheel Size
The size (diameter) of the wheel the tyre is designed to fit. Specified in terms of <rim diameter> <unit>
Some tyres specify the rim size in multiple units, in which case the alternative units are shown and separated from the primary units by spaces and a forward slash e.g. <rim diameter> A / <rim diameter> inch
A text field. Examples: 700 C, 29 inch, 650 A / 26 inch
Tyre Specification: ETRTO
The European Tire and Rim Technical Organisation (ETRTO) size in the format <rim width>-<rim diameter>
Examples: 25-622, 37-451, 44-406
Tyre Specification: Size
The size of the tyre expressed in terms of <rim diameter> x <width> <units&gt
Alternative units may be included in round brackets after the definition e.g. <rim diameter> x <width> C (<rim diameter> x <width> inch)
Examples: 20 x 1.75 inch, 27.5 x 2.1 inch, 29 x 2.4 inch, 700 x 23 C, 650 x 35 A (26 x 1.375 inch)
Tyre Specification: Category
Road / Race
Touring
MTB
BMX
Cross
Balloon
Gravity
Wheelchair
Tyre Specification: Type
Clincher
Tubeless
Tubular
Tyre Specification: Colour
The colour of the tyre. If the tyre has a contrasting colour on the sidewall it is defined as <primary colour> / <secondary (sidewall) colour>
Examples: Black, Beige, Black / Reflective, Black / Red Stripe
Tyre Specification: Bead
Folding
Rigid
Tyre Specification: Carcus
A text field describing the construction of the tyre carcus or casing. This is usually defined as a number of Threads Per Inch (<number> TPI) or Ends Per Inch (<number> EPI), depending on the tyre manufacturer. It is often preceded by the number of plies, for example 3 x 30 TPI for a three plie casing.
Examples: 67 EPI, 2 x 160 TPI, 3 x 120 TPI
Tyre Specification: Protection
A text field describing the type of puncture protection offered by the tyre. This is often a trade marked term specific to the tyre manufacturer.
Examples: SmartGuard
Tyre Specification: Tread Compound
A text field describing the tread compound. This is often a trade marked term specific to the tyre manufacturer.
Examples: ADDIX Speed, SBC, Magi-X DH technology
Tyre Specification: Weight
The weight of the tyre in grams – format <number> g
Examples: 595 g, 650 g 775 g
