When importing new products via the VS Admin CSV Import/Export function there are various ways to set the price. This article provides guidance to help you get this right.
Adding New Products
A new product must have a Standard Price (the normal price a customer will pay on the website) and a Sale Price (the prices the customer pays during a sale). To create a new product via the CSV Import function these two prices can be set in two ways:
Method 1 – Single pricing
This method is used if you just want to set a single price for the product, regardless of the number bought. To do this, use the VS field “Price (Inc VAT)” to set the Standard Price and the VS field “Sale Price (Inc VAT)” to set the Sale Price.
Method 2 – Bulk pricing
This method is used if you just want to set multiple prices for the product according to the number purchased e.g. if you buy 1-9 your pay £9.99 per item, but if you buy 10 or more you pay £7.99 per item. To do this, use the VS field “Price Break 1 (Quantity)” to set the minimum purchase quantity to get price 1, the VS field “Price Break 1 (Price Inc VAT)” to set the Standard Price for price 1 and the VS field “Price Break 1 (Sale Price Inc VAT)” to set the Sale Price for price 1. Then to set the second price point up you use the VS field “Price Break 2 (Quantity)” to set the minimum purchase quantity to get price 2, the VS field “Price Break 2 (Price Inc VAT)” to set the Standard Price for price 2 and the VS field “Price Break 2 (Sale Price Inc VAT)” to set the Sale Price for price 2, and so on for as many price breaks as you want.
Note: To create a new product with single pricing you can still use Method 2, but only provide Price Break 1 values.
Viewing Prices in VS Admin
After you have created a new products, regardless of whether they were imported using Method 1 or Method 2, they appear in the VS Admin product page as though they were created using bulk pricing. If the new product was created using Method 1, with just a single Standard and Sale price, these will appear in the “Price Breaks” tab as the “Price for 1”.
Exporting Existing Products
When you use the VS Admin CSV Import/Export function to export products from the system, it always exports the products using the field names for Method 2 – Bulk pricing. If the new product was created using Method 1, with just a single Standard and Sale price, these will appear in the fields “Price Break 1 (Price Inc VAT)” and “Price Break 1 (Sale Price Inc VAT)” and the field “Price Break 1 (Quantity)” will appear with a value 1.
Adding New Products via the Product Loader
When you add new products via the Product Loader function (in the Tools and Utilities section of this website), it always uses the simple Method 1.
