The Fawkes website allocates a category (or Department) to each product to help customers locate the products they wish to browse or purchase. These categories appear as menu’s on the website. Categories are tiered to allow sub-division of main product groups. The category Bikes for example has sub categories of Mountain Bike, Road Bike, Gravel Bike, etc.
When new products are loaded into the system, the supplier’s categories must be translated into the correct Fawkes category from the Fawkes Category list. The product loader has a translation file for each supplier that holds all the supplier categories and their equivalent Fawkes Category. If a supplier issues a product feed with a new category, this must be added to that supplier’s translation file along with its equivalent Fawkes Category. The Fawkes pre-Product Loader function (in the Tools and Utilities section of this website) can be used to scan a supplier feed for ‘new’ categories and help add these to the translation file so that the product loader knows what Fawkes Category to set for each product.
Fawkes Categories (AKA Departments or website navigation menus)
The following table lists all the Fawkes Categories. Only these categories should be used in the supplier category translation files used by the Product Loader. Note, the categories are case sensitive, but as a general rule should be lower case with the initial letter or each word capitalised. The Tier separator is a right hand chevron character (>).
